The American Counseling Association (ACA)
The mission of the American Counseling Association is to enhance the quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect for human dignity and diversity. This Association spans the United States and a number of other countries.

If you go to the home page of ACA (http://www.counseling.org/AboutUs/) you will be able to access a wealth of information that will be helpful to you. Information about publications, conferences, professional ethics, career opportunities, podcasts, interest networks, and a variety of other areas will all be at your fingertips. If you have interest in receiving the ACA’s award winning journal, the Journal of Counseling and Development, its informative magazine, Counseling Today, low cost professional liability insurance (free to graduate students), regular e-mails about legislation and other developments pertinent to those interested in the helping professions, etc., you might even consider joining the American Counseling Association if you are not a member already.

The Capuzzi Student Scholarship Fund (Capuzzi Endowment)
Because of my long-standing interest in counseling at-risk youth, a student scholarship fund was established at the Portland State University Foundation, in my name, at the time I retired from Portland State University. Though the scholarship carries my name, funds are designated entirely for the benefit of the student who receives the scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to facilitate the preparation of counselors by providing scholarships to graduating Masters Degree students planning to enter doctoral programs to become counselor educators at universities. The only way to prepare additional counselors to work in schools and agencies is to encourage counselors, who are exceptional scholars and interpersonal communicators, to obtain the doctoral degree so they can educate and supervise additional counselors. Such support is a necessity given the escalating costs of university tuition and books and I am particularly interested in funding those who want to prepare counselors to work with at-risk youth.
